Excellent next to skin layer.Soft, and unbelievably warm.I don't know why I am constantly surprised by how awesome wool is.Anyway, my mental limits aside, this is a great buy.It was pricey, but from what I hear it's going to last long enough to make it worth the cost. The size runs a little small; I bought a medium thinking I would wear it over a polypro layer, but no can do- it's a base layer. Not a huge problem, because it's super soft and feels great.I'm on the small side usually, but I climb so have a wide back and shoulders. This isn't the first time I've ended up a medium, so I don't hold it against them but if you're athletic build I would suggest go with the larger of the sizes you usually wear. The purple is a great color and while it's not really my style to run around in long underwear as clothing, when you're kicking back in the lodge at the end of whatever day you've just had while wearing it, you will be looking good.
I only gave it 4 stars because I think if something is going to be a base layer it should be long enough to tuck in and this doesn't quite make it.It tucks in, but if you reach high or bend over it's going to come out and leave you drafty.Another inch or two on the hem would make a difference. I'll probably end up buying a large at some point so that I can carry on with my plan of wearing it over a polypro.I feel with these two layers as a base I will be unstoppable on the mountain.
